If your tooth is decaying or broken, don't panic! Your tooth can likely be saved with a porcelain dental crown.

A dental crown is a tooth shaped cover that is positioned over an existing damaged tooth to enhance strength and durability, and to create a smoother, more aesthetically pleasing look.

Porcelain Crowns are often used to

  • Reinforce a cracked or broken tooth

  • Repair a tooth with an old large filling

  • Cover a severly decayed tooth

  • Reinforce a tooth that has had a root canal

  • Encase a dental implant

  • Anchor a dental bridge

At Oakland Park Family Dental, we take every step possible to ensure that your crown not only looks beautiful, but is also functional and long lasting. Read below about what you can expect and how we're different.

  1. Dr. Rezvani will prepare your tooth for the crown by shaping it.

  2. An impression of the tooth and surrounding teeth is taken.

  3. A temporary acrylic crown is placed on the tooth.

  4. When the permanent crown is ready (typically 1-2 weeks), the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is placed over the tooth.

Dr. Rezvani goes the extra mile to ensure your crown lasts (crowns may last up to 40 years!) and to minimize/eliminate post-procedure sensitivity. These extra precautions include:

  • Prior to placing the permanent crown on the tooth, Dr. Rezvani scrubs the tooth with an antibacterial solution. This step ensures that no bacteria becomes trapped under the crown, which reduces the chances of post-procedure sensitivity and of another cavity later developing beneath the crown.

  • While Dr. Rezvani is placing the permanent crown on your tooth, she takes X-Rays to ensure that the crown seals correctly to your tooth to reduce the chances of plaque forming under the crown. She also uses the X-Rays to ensure that there is no bonding cement left under the gums, which can cause post-procedure inflammation and irritation.
